The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Index Institute of Dental Sciences, Malwanchal University, Indore, celebrated International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day on 13th February 2026 with great enthusiasm under the leadership of Dr. Mamta Singh, Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The programme was organized to create awareness about the significant role of oral and maxillofacial surgeons in the diagnosis and management of oral cancer, facial trauma, and other complex maxillofacial conditions. The event reflected the department’s commitment to promoting oral health awareness and educating the community about the importance of early diagnosis, timely intervention, and preventive dental care.
The celebration began at 10:30 AM with a Walkathon from the college premises to the University Gate, involving faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, and undergraduate students. Participants carried awareness messages highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco use, the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, and the need for regular oral health check-ups. Following the rally, a series of educational skits were presented to demonstrate the dangers of oral cancer, the consequences of tobacco consumption, and the management of facial trauma. The performances effectively engaged the audience and encouraged individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles while seeking professional consultation for early detection and treatment of oral diseases.
The programme was graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Rosaiah Kanaparthy, Dean, Index Institute of Dental Sciences, Dr. R. C. Yadav, Additional Director, along with Heads of Departments and faculty members from various disciplines. The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, refreshments, and a group photography session with the anaesthetists, symbolizing the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork in patient care. The event successfully strengthened awareness about oral and maxillofacial health while reinforcing the institution’s commitment to excellence in dental education, community outreach, and comprehensive healthcare services.
