The Index Institute of Dental Sciences (IIDS) organised an informative guest lecture on “Pharmacovigilance and the Role of Healthcare Professionals in Reporting Adverse Drug Reactions” on 19 September 2026. The session was organised with the objective of enhancing awareness among students, interns, and faculty members about the importance of pharmacovigilance in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines. The lecture focused on developing a better understanding of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), their identification, documentation, and the role of healthcare professionals in strengthening drug safety practices.
The session was delivered by Dr. Gulam Mohammad Lone, Professor of Pharmacology, who shared valuable insights into the principles and significance of pharmacovigilance. Through an informative and engaging discussion, he explained the various aspects of identifying and monitoring adverse drug reactions and highlighted the importance of timely and accurate reporting. He emphasised that healthcare professionals play a crucial role in recognising suspected ADRs and contributing to systematic drug-safety monitoring. The lecture also provided participants with a practical understanding of how effective reporting can support safer medication practices and help in improving patient care.
The session witnessed active participation from faculty members, students, and interns, who engaged with the speaker and benefited from the detailed discussion and insights shared during the programme. The interactive nature of the lecture encouraged participants to understand the importance of remaining vigilant while prescribing, dispensing, and administering medicines.
