The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Index Institute of Dental Sciences, Indore, celebrated International OMFS Day on 13 February 2026 with great enthusiasm and a strong commitment to promoting oral healthcare awareness. The event was organized to educate the public about the significance of early diagnosis and prevention of oral cancer, facial trauma management, and the vital role of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in comprehensive healthcare. Faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, and undergraduate students actively participated in the celebration, making it a meaningful and impactful occasion.
The programme commenced with an awareness Walkathon, where participants carried messages emphasizing the importance of maintaining oral health and recognizing the early signs of oral cancer. The walk served as an effective platform to engage the community and encourage timely screening and treatment. Adding a creative dimension to the awareness campaign, students performed informative skits focusing on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, the prevention of oral cancer, and the management of facial injuries. These performances successfully conveyed important health messages in an engaging and relatable manner, inspiring the audience to adopt healthier lifestyles and seek professional care when needed.
The celebration concluded with various departmental activities that reflected the spirit of unity and academic excellence within the institution. A cake-cutting ceremony, refreshments, and group photography sessions with the Department of Anaesthesiology highlighted the close interdisciplinary collaboration essential for successful oral and maxillofacial surgical care.
