On 4th February 2025, the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Index Institute of Dental Sciences, Malwanchal University, Indore, proudly observed World Cancer Day under the guidance of Dr. Poonam Tomar Rana, Incharge of the Tobacco Cessation Centre. This significant day aimed to raise awareness about cancer prevention, with a special focus on oral cancer and the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
To commemorate the day, the Department, led by Dr. Ranjan Mani Tripathi, Dr. Anshuman Swami, and Dr. Chirag Vyas, organized a comprehensive free dental screening and health education camp for the daily wage workers of Nayi Basti, Pedmi Village, Indore. The camp’s goal was to not only provide immediate dental care but also to empower the community with vital knowledge on cancer prevention.
The event featured several impactful activities:
Oral Health Awareness and Promotion: The team conducted engaging sessions on maintaining good oral hygiene and its connection to overall health.
Pamphlet Distribution on Tobacco Control: Educational materials were distributed to highlight the dangerous consequences of tobacco use, especially in relation to oral cancer.
Free Dental Screening: Comprehensive screenings were offered to identify potential health issues and provide early intervention.
During the camp, the residents were educated and counseled about the importance of cancer prevention, particularly focusing on oral cancer. The dangers of tobacco consumption were clearly outlined, with practical tips on how to reduce the risks.The event was supported by the dedicated faculties and interns of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, who also provided cancer prevention education to patients attending the dental college. This initiative was a powerful reminder of the collective effort needed to combat cancer and improve public health through education and awareness.Through such outreach activities, Malwanchal University continues to contribute to the betterment of society by promoting healthier lifestyles and ensuring that communities receive the knowledge they need to make informed health decisions.
