February 17, 2026by admin0

Index Institute of Dental Sciences (IIDS), under the aegis of Malwanchal University, organized a series of meaningful activities on the occasion of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ Day, highlighting the importance of facial trauma awareness and cancer prevention. As part of the campaign, a Walkathon was conducted to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and the importance of helmet use for road safety. Students, faculty members, and senior doctors actively participated in the rally, delivering a strong social message about preventing facial injuries and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Through placards, slogans, and public interaction, participants emphasized the rising risk of oral cancer due to tobacco use and encouraged the community to adopt preventive measures.

The Walkathon also focused on spreading awareness about facial injuries caused by road accidents, sports activities, and other unforeseen incidents. Dental students educated the public about the importance of early diagnosis, timely medical intervention, and avoiding self-treatment in trauma situations. Engaging activities such as street plays and debates were organized to demonstrate the significance of first aid in road accidents, strict adherence to traffic rules, and compulsory helmet usage. Head of the Department, Dr. Mamta Singh, highlighted that delayed treatment in trauma cases can lead to permanent deformity and serious health complications. Dr. Sangeeta Bansal from the Department of Anesthesia emphasized that such initiatives play a vital role in strengthening public health awareness.

The event commenced in the presence of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Narang, Dean Dr. Rousiya Kanaparthi, Additional Director Dr. R. C. Yadav, Additional Registrar Dr. Rajendra Singh, along with Dr. Rajeev Shrivastava, Dr. Mahendra, Dr. Praneel, and other distinguished dignitaries. Coordinators Dr. Swapnil Singh and Dr. Nidhi Singh reiterated that in case of any accident or facial injury, individuals should immediately seek expert care at a specialized hospital rather than attempting self-medication. The initiative reflected the institution’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to fulfilling its social responsibility toward building a healthier and safer community.
