The Index Institute of Dental Sciences (IIDS), Indore, has taken a pioneering step in transforming dental education and treatment by launching Central India’s first Department of Digital Dentistry. This groundbreaking initiative was inaugurated by eminent dental professionals from Delhi, Dr. Sween Kathuria and Dr. Rameet Lamba, in the presence of Index Group Chairman Mr. Suresh Singh Bhadoria, Malwanchal University Vice Chancellor Dr. Sanjeev Narang, and IIDS Dean Dr. Rolly Agrawal. The department is equipped with cutting-edge technologies including intraoral scanners, tabletop scanners, dental milling and sintering units, and advanced 3D printing machines, setting a new benchmark in modern dental practice.
Dr. Sween Kathuria emphasized that digital dentistry is no longer just an innovation—it is a necessity in today’s fast-evolving healthcare landscape. Devices like intraoral scanners allow for precise 3D imaging of the oral cavity, leading to faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. IIDS becomes the first institution in the region to introduce smile designing using fully digital workflows. Dr. Rameet Lamba added that digital techniques enhance visibility and precision in complex cases, which are often challenging with traditional methods.
The newly launched department will offer advanced services including dental laminates, zirconia crowns, orthodontic braces, and custom 3D-printed aligners for patients with misaligned teeth. It also introduces 3D-printed surgical guides, ensuring precision in implant and restorative procedures. Dr. Roly Agrawal, Dean of IIDS, expressed pride in bringing world-class dental technology to students and patients alike. A live demonstration and hands-on training session by visiting experts helped students and faculty gain practical knowledge of the latest machines. The launch event was graced by senior officials from Malwanchal University and Index Group, marking a major milestone in the journey toward digital excellence in dental care and education.
